Software Development Engineer – Embedded Systems

About the role

Sonos is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join its newly formed Diagnostics & System Team in Shanghai. You will work on core firmware and software that enable innovative home and business audio solutions, collaborating with experts across hardware, radio, acoustics, Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth.

Key responsibilities

• Write clear, reliable, and maintainable C/C++ code for embedded Linux platforms.
• Design and implement new features while optimizing existing technologies.
• Modify software for new hardware, fix bugs, upgrade interfaces, and improve performance.
• Debug low‑level issues spanning hardware‑software interfaces and support factory/vendor labs.
• Develop unit tests using GTEST and contribute to continuous integration pipelines.

Required profile

• 4+ years of embedded system programming experience in C/C++.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in cross‑functional, multicultural teams.
• Hands‑on testing and debugging of embedded systems in a lab environment.
• Track record of shipping reliable, extensible software.

Required skills

• Embedded Linux system architecture and development environments.
• Hardware communication interfaces: SPI, I2C, I2S, UART, USB, Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi.
• Performance‑critical software development for resource‑constrained devices.
• Linux kernel and U‑Boot programming and configuration.
• Real‑time operating systems and unit testing frameworks (GTEST).
