Senior Staff Back-end Engineer - Instant Commerce (Eats)

About the role

Coupang Eats Engineering builds products and services for customers, restaurants and cafes, couriers and internal operations, aiming for a fast and cost-effective experience. As a senior technical leader in Eats Engineering, you will drive cross-team initiatives critical to business growth while ensuring engineering excellence, keeping Eats platforms scalable, extendable and highly available. The role involves working at code level with other engineers and building software.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership to the Eats Engineering organization so engineers build scalable, fault-tolerant systems
• Work with senior leadership and product owners to define and execute technical strategy and roadmap
• Drive mission-critical projects with stakeholders and engineers to solve complex business problems
• Own the overall architecture plan and apply best-practice architecture, design patterns and ongoing simplification of the system landscape
• Dive deep into critical system issues, ideally identifying them early and planning solutions
• Help recruit top-tier senior engineers and mentor, develop and coach engineers on architecture, design and best practices
• Communicate clearly with team members, peers and leadership, and own the definition, measurement and reporting of system and operational metrics

Required profile

• 10+ years of industry experience building B2C-scale products, preferably in a Java stack and AWS cloud environment
• 7+ years in technical leadership roles, with demonstrated technical vision and execution at organization or business-unit level
• Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering, or a related field
• Experience collaborating across globally distributed teams

Required skills

• Java development, system and data architecture, distributed computing and storage
• Messaging services, caching and performance tuning
• Preferred: ecommerce or food delivery product experience, ML platform and MLOps, prompt engineering and agent frameworks
