Principal Engineer – Acoustics

About the role

HARMAN Lifestyle is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead acoustic design for consumer headphone products. You will shape sound tuning, acoustic architecture, and active‑noise‑cancelling (ANC) systems to deliver premium listening experiences for renowned brands such as JBL, Mark Levinson, and Revel.

Key responsibilities

• Define acoustic requirements, develop concepts and specifications for headphones.
• Design and validate acoustic architecture and ANC performance before tooling.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and suppliers to assess feasibility and review design proposals.
• Conduct acoustic verification, measurements, and final sound approval.
• Support evaluation of new platforms, materials, and acoustic technologies.
• Provide technical guidance to suppliers and assist sound‑quality engineers in establishing control processes.

Required profile

• Strong hearing ability and proven experience evaluating audio product quality.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Acoustical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a headphone acoustic system engineer in new‑product development.
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
• Ability to work effectively with suppliers and multicultural teams.

Required skills

• DSP fundamentals and algorithm development for headphones.
• Acoustic architecture design and ANC system design.
• Acoustic verification, measurement techniques, and sound‑tuning.
• Knowledge of headphone hardware, software, and related telecommunications technologies (e.g., VOIP, Skype).
