Postdoctoral Researcher – R&D (Chemistry)

About the role

BASF is seeking a motivated post‑doctoral researcher to join its R&D team in Shanghai. You will work on advanced polymer projects, delivering technical solutions for complex research assignments and contributing to the company’s knowledge base.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement technical solutions using both existing and novel technologies.
• Translate project objectives into detailed work plans for the laboratory team and analyse experimental results.
• Create new methods and procedures for synthesis, testing, and analysis.
• Coordinate research activities with internal and external partners, ensuring milestones, timelines and budgets are met.
• Present findings, document results and support patent filing.
• Monitor scientific and technical trends, review literature and IP, and propose new research topics.

Required profile

• PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, preferably with a polymer focus.
• Strong background in polyurethane dispersion (PUD) synthesis.
• Experience with water‑based coating or adhesive systems is advantageous.
• Fluent English (reading, writing and presenting).
