Material Planner (Inventory Planning Supervisor)

About the role

ABB is hiring a Material Planner for its electrification and distribution solution product line in Xiamen, China. The role covers end-to-end inventory planning, from purchase requisition to customer invoice, and supports daily internal customer service inquiries. It is an onsite position reporting to the Planning & Fulfillment Manager, working with project managers, master planning and sourcing teams.

Key responsibilities

• Define inventory policies based on specified segmentation.
• Calculate and maintain inventory parameters such as safety stock, reorder point, lot size, lead time and replenishment strategy in planning systems and ERPs.
• Coordinate material planning with call-offs so purchase requisitions become purchase orders, working with operations buyers and services.
• Work with buyers to improve supplier performance on on-time delivery, minimum order quantity, quality, lead time and flexibility.
• Support the procurement process for production materials, from demand forecasting to payment, including order creation, packaging, import customs, non-conforming goods and supplier delivery monitoring.
• Manage supply risk through backup suppliers, stocking and material substitution.
• Lead inventory planning, analysis and monitoring, and handle slow-moving stock.
• Develop digital tools to improve team efficiency and manage team development.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or above.
• 5+ years of experience in material planning, purchasing, sourcing, logistics or project engineering.
• 2+ years of team management experience.
• Passion for material and supplier management, comfortable communicating in English.

Required skills

• Familiarity with key electrical equipment materials (protection relays, current transformers, insulation parts, sheet metal, copper busbars and pipes).
• Knowledge of the supply market and lead times.
• Proficiency in the ERP material management module.
• Data analysis, logical thinking, communication and problem-solving abilities.
