Manager - Legal Counsel

About the role

The Manager – Legal Counsel will serve as a key legal advisor for the Marketing function in China, reporting to the Director‑Legal Counsel for Marketing, Supporting Functions and Supply Chain. The role involves providing independent legal services, supporting business initiatives, and contributing to growth projects.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, negotiate and review a wide range of legal documents and contracts for Marketing and related functions.
• Provide daily legal advice to ensure feasibility and compliance of business initiatives, including training on legal awareness.
• Identify complex legal issues and deliver proactive, value‑added counsel with balanced, preventive solutions.
• Negotiate independently on significant legal matters tied to Marketing initiatives.
• Interpret national sustainability standards and advise on QC, labeling, and sustainability requests.
• Assist on Marketing‑related projects as assigned by senior legal members.
• Coordinate legal proceedings, manage external counsel relationships, and ensure proper case handling.
• Collaborate with other legal team members to improve policies and practices in China.

Required profile

• PRC law degree from a reputable university; additional degree from US, UK or other common‑law jurisdiction preferred.
• PRC bar qualification required; additional bar admissions are a plus.
• Minimum 5 years of post‑qualification legal practice in a multinational corporation’s legal department or an international law firm.
• Strong knowledge of Chinese advertising, product quality, company, and anti‑unfair competition laws.
• Experience in wholesale, FMCG, sports, or retail sectors.
• Familiarity with the Chinese judicial system and experience handling litigation and arbitration.
