Industrial Designer – Wearable Hardware

About the role

We’re hiring an industrial designer in Shenzhen to create wearable hardware that workers use on job sites, such as camera hats and mounts. The role involves taking concepts from sketch through production, ensuring the products are functional, comfortable, and manufacturable.

Key responsibilities

• Own industrial design from early concept through production, focusing on form, wearability, and serviceability.
• Explore and communicate ideas through sketching, CAD, rendering, and physical prototypes (3D print and factory samples).
• Develop colour, material, and finish (CMF) specifications and manage vendor relationships for DFM, sampling, and final production.
• Collaborate with mechanical and PCB engineers to integrate board, battery, camera, and enclosure into a single object.
• Design for manufacturability at required volumes while ensuring comfort for all‑day wear.
• Work closely with the Head of Design & Taste in San Francisco, delivering the final product in Shenzhen.

Required profile

• Portfolio of shipped physical products, especially wearables, tools, or devices used in real‑world settings.
• Strong industrial design fundamentals: sketching, form, proportion, detailing, and 3D modelling.
• Ability to progress from sketch to factory sample and understand tooling constraints.
• Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and design for production.
• Experience working with Shenzhen vendors and iterating in a factory environment.
• Good design taste; will not ship something that looks like a science‑fair project.

Required skills

• SolidWorks, Onshape, or Rhino (CAD tools).
• KeyShot or equivalent visualization software.
• Mechanical design experience with enclosures, mounts, and stack‑ups.
