Global Director of Animal Sentience & Welfare Education

About the role

The Global Director of Animal Sentience & Welfare Education leads the design, delivery and evaluation of educational programmes that raise awareness of animal sentience, welfare and responsible ownership. Based in Chengdu, China or Tam Dao, Vietnam, the role involves extensive regional and international travel and offers relocation support.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive education strategy aligned with the organisation’s mission.
• Design curricula, workshops, digital resources and presentations covering animal cognition, behaviour, veterinary welfare and companion ownership.
• Manage, train and supervise education staff, interns and volunteers, and recruit subject‑matter presenters.
• Create age‑appropriate programmes for children, teens, adults and professional audiences.
• Build and maintain partnerships with universities, schools, shelters, veterinarians and government agencies.
• Lead outreach events, community workshops and public awareness campaigns.
• Oversee budgets, grants, contracts and resource allocation for education initiatives.
• Develop evaluation metrics, collect data and produce impact reports to refine programmes.
• Ensure all content is evidence‑based, culturally responsive and compliant with policies and regulations.
• Support fundraising and grant‑writing with programmatic narratives and data.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Animal Science, Biology, Nonprofit Management or related field; Master’s preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in education, programme development or outreach, preferably in animal welfare or related nonprofits.
• Proven experience managing teams, budgets and collaborative partnerships.
• Strong knowledge of animal behaviour, welfare issues and community‑based education best practices.
