Digitalization and AI Support Intern

About the role

BASF is looking for a motivated Digitalization and AI Support Intern to help address business challenges through digital and artificial intelligence-based solutions. The intern supports dashboard development and process improvement initiatives that enable better decision-making and greater operational efficiency. The position is based in Shanghai.

Key responsibilities

• Support the automation of manual processes through digital tools and data-driven solutions.
• Assist in identifying opportunities to solve business challenges through digitalization or AI applications.
• Build, maintain and improve dashboards and reports using Power BI and Excel.
• Prepare clear, structured data visualizations, reports and presentations for business stakeholders.
• Work with cross-functional stakeholders such as engineering, sales, supply chain and corporate functions to gather requirements and turn them into analytical solutions.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Business Analytics or a related field.
• Strong interest in AI, automation and digitalization, with hands-on experience using LLMs, AI agents or workflow automation tools.
• Able to identify business and engineering use cases and translate them into practical AI solutions.
• Self-driven problem solver with strong analytical skills, able to learn and prototype quickly.
• Clear communication skills in Chinese and English, able to collaborate across global teams.

Required skills

• Programming in Python, SQL or similar tools for data extraction, transformation and analysis.
• Power BI and Microsoft Excel for reporting, dashboards and data visualization.
• Preferred: basic programming, familiarity with APIs, data processing and AI application development.
• Preferred: exposure to project management or process improvement, and familiarity with Power Automate.
