Buying Team Leader – Supply Chain

About the role

The Buying Team Leader oversees the procurement function for a large manufacturing site, supervising a team of 25‑50 semi‑skilled employees. Reporting to a second‑level manager, the role ensures that buying activities align with corporate policies and business schedules.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate buying activities and manage team projects, allocating resources effectively.
• Advise on creation, review, and approval of procurement documentation and maintain a standards database.
• Lead development of complex procurement documents and negotiate with suppliers where no precedent exists.
• Develop and enforce purchasing policies and procedures, guiding internal customers on compliance.
• Oversee new site acquisition procurement, prepare purchase orders, requisitions, and expedite deliveries.
• Identify cost‑saving opportunities, ensure on‑time delivery and quality, and act as primary contact for suppliers.
• Generate procurement reports and monitor performance against business schedules.

Required profile

• First‑level supervisor experience managing 25‑50 staff in a procurement or supply‑chain environment.
• Proven ability to establish annual plans, interpret policies, and contribute to policy development.
• Experience handling budgets, schedules, and enforcing procedures.
• Involvement in hiring, performance reviews, compensation recommendations, and disciplinary actions.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with internal teams and external suppliers.
