Associate or Senior Editor – Communications Sustainability

About the role

Springer Nature is seeking an Associate or Senior Editor with research experience in environmental sciences applied to sustainability. The editor will manage manuscript selection, development and promotion for the open‑access journal Communications Sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Select and develop manuscripts for publication, ensuring they meet the journal’s editorial policy.
• Improve manuscript titles, abstracts and structure to maximise accessibility.
• Oversee the transfer of accepted papers to production in a complete state.
• Recommend manuscripts for press releases and draft the releases.
• Recruit, train and support external editors, communicating journal philosophy and policies.
• Represent the journal at conferences, research institution visits and report on activities.
• Provide marketing advice, answer queries and suggest leads.
• Create editorial content for special projects as directed by the Chief Editor.

Required profile

• PhD‑level research experience in environmental sciences with analytical or computational focus.
• Experience in editorial work, post‑doctoral research or related training is advantageous.
• Strong scientific curiosity and ability to assess novelty, context and impact across disciplines.
• Excellent written and spoken English communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to engage with scientists worldwide, both online and in person.
