AI Developer – Machine Learning Consultant

About the role

The United Nations Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) is seeking an AI Developer to design, develop, and support software applications that incorporate machine-learning and geospatial components. This six-month consultancy will be based on-site in Deqing, Zhejiang, China, and will contribute to the UN’s digital transformation agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop software applications using machine-learning models and UN-established standards.
• Participate in programming, testing, debugging, and implementation of AI-enabled solutions.
• Prepare technical and user documentation, training materials, and deliver technical presentations.
• Provide third-level application support, version management, data recovery, and deployment to user offices.
• Maintain version control with Git and manage model updates.
• Monitor developments in AI, benchmark new tools, and propose innovative models, libraries, and optimization techniques.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics or a related field (or a first-level degree plus two years relevant experience).
• At least 4 years of professional experience with Python and one major ML library (e.g., PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow).
• Minimum 2 years of experience in model evaluation, fine-tuning, optimization, quantization, model serving, data pipelines, or Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) development.
