Customer Engineer (C1) – Field Service Role

About the role

As a Customer Engineer (C1) at Applied Materials you will act as the primary liaison with customers in Yixing, installing, maintaining and upgrading semiconductor equipment. The role combines field service work, troubleshooting using digital analytics and hands‑on maintenance of complex systems.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with senior engineers to install, maintain and upgrade customer equipment.
• Use digital analytics and basic diagnostic techniques to troubleshoot technical issues.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic and gas systems.
• Coordinate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations and high‑quality service.
• Fulfill additional duties as assigned, including travel to customer sites (≈20% of time).

Required profile

• Associate degree, military technical training, field service experience or trade certification.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn electrical and mechanical schematics.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a passport for travel.
• Ability to meet on‑site safety, environmental and COVID‑19 protocols.
• Preferred: 1–2 years of field service support experience and knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum or thermodynamics.
