Senior Systems Engineer – Software & Image Quality

About the role

Philips is seeking a senior systems engineer to lead the software and image‑quality development for CT scanners. The role combines technical leadership, system architecture definition, and close collaboration with clinical partners.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall technical leadership and ensure full system product releases meet quality and compliance standards.
• Define imaging performance targets (spatial resolution, low‑contrast detectability, noise texture, CT number accuracy, temporal resolution) based on clinical use cases and regulatory benchmarks.
• Design system‑level software architecture for CT scanners, covering real‑time control, data acquisition, image reconstruction, post‑processing, and DICOM integration.
• Develop failure handling and recovery strategies for software‑detectable faults such as lost sync, buffer overruns, and communication timeouts.
• Translate clinical and product requirements into detailed software specifications, interface contracts, and performance budgets.
• Lead trade‑off analyses for software partitioning, hardware selection (CPU, GPU, FPGA), and operating system choices.
• Establish objective and subjective image‑quality metrics and standard operating procedures for system evaluation.
• Collaborate with radiologists and clinical partners to collect feedback and iteratively improve image appearance and diagnostic value.

Required profile

• PhD or Master’s degree in Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
• 6–10 years of industry experience in CT software design or imaging system development, with a proven record of delivering clinically successful image quality.
• Experience bringing at least one CT product from concept to regulatory clearance or market launch.

Required skills

• System modeling languages such as SysML.
• Requirements management tools like DOORS or Jama.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting complex data to senior management.
• Fluency in English for technical documentation and global collaboration.
