Senior Legal Counsel

About the role

Air Products is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to provide comprehensive in‑house legal support for its Asian operations, with a primary focus on China. The role is hands‑on and covers litigation, commercial contracts, corporate and M&A matters, regulatory issues, risk management, and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Manage litigation and dispute resolution across the region.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, ensuring risk is properly allocated.
• Support corporate governance, M&A transactions, and joint‑venture projects.
• Oversee regulatory compliance, including anti‑bribery, competition law, and conflicts of interest.
• Develop and maintain internal policies and a legal knowledge database for China and Asia.
• Lead negotiations with customers, suppliers, and authorities, providing strategic legal guidance.
• Supervise external counsel, control legal spend, and report risks to senior management.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering practical, solution‑oriented legal advice in a multinational environment.
• Ability to work autonomously under remote supervision while collaborating with regional legal teams.
• Strong interpersonal and cross‑cultural communication skills.
• Experience with industrial gases, chemicals, or related manufacturing sectors is a plus.

Required skills

• Expertise in commercial contract drafting and negotiation.
• Knowledge of corporate, M&A, and regulatory law in China.
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks (anti‑bribery, competition, conflicts of interest).
• Ability to manage external counsel and legal budgets.
