Maintenance Engineer

About the role

Chemelex is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to ensure reliable operation of its cable production line. The role involves daily inspections, preventive maintenance, and rapid troubleshooting of equipment such as extruders, stranding and braiding machines, and testing devices.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily inspections, preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs on cable production equipment to minimise downtime.
• Diagnose equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Develop and follow TPM maintenance schedules, including wear‑part replacement, lubrication and servicing.
• Provide technical support to production teams, assist with equipment upgrades, retrofits and new‑equipment commissioning.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with EHS safety standards and inspect safety devices.
• Manage spare‑parts inventory, initiate procurement and track usage to control costs.
• Maintain detailed repair records, generate analysis reports and develop SOPs, training operators as required.
• Collaborate with production, process and quality teams to resolve equipment‑related product defects and liaise with suppliers or external technicians.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Automation Engineering or a related field.
• Familiarity with cable manufacturing processes.
• Strong analytical skills for fault diagnosis.
• Relevant certifications (electrician, welder, high‑voltage licence) are a plus.

Required skills

• PLC programming and troubleshooting.
• Inverter maintenance.
• Hydraulic and pneumatic system repair.
• Use of multimeters and oscilloscopes.
