Legal Counsel

About the role

IDC is seeking a Legal Counsel to serve as the primary on‑the‑ground legal point of contact for its China operations and the broader APAC sales team. You will provide practical, business‑forward advice, coordinate with global experts, and help keep deals and initiatives moving smoothly.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the first‑line legal advisor for PRC commercial, employment, data‑protection (PIPL), anti‑bribery/anti‑corruption, and other regulatory matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including customer contracts, vendor agreements, and data‑related agreements across China and APAC.
• Advise on AI‑related initiatives, covering product offerings, internal use, customer and vendor terms, intellectual property, responsible AI governance, and applicable PRC regulations.
• Coordinate cross‑functionally with Sales, Finance, HR, Compliance, and Business Operations to identify legal risk early.
• Manage and oversee outside counsel in China and other APAC jurisdictions, including budget control.
• Support commercial disputes, claims, internal investigations, and IP enforcement efforts.
• Partner with the global Legal team on cross‑border projects, policy rollouts, and contract template standardisation.
• Develop and deliver training on contracts, data protection, AI, and compliance for China and APAC stakeholders.
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments in China and APAC and flag relevant changes.

Required profile

• Proven experience handling commercial agreements and regulatory compliance in China or APAC.
• Strong knowledge of PRC commercial law, employment law, data‑protection (PIPL), and anti‑bribery regulations.
• Ability to work closely with global legal, privacy, compliance, and product experts.
• Experience managing outside counsel and overseeing legal budgets.
