Intermediate Designer, Architecture

About the role

SOM is seeking an Intermediate Designer to contribute to the architectural design of projects across its interdisciplinary teams. The role offers the chance to work on sustainable, high‑impact projects while developing technical expertise and creative solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and detail specific portions of architectural projects under the guidance of project leadership.
• Produce and coordinate presentation and contract deliverables, including diagrams, 3D models, drawings, renderings, physical models and animations.
• Communicate design ideas clearly through written, oral and visual media.
• Integrate interdisciplinary criteria to advance design concepts and technical strategies.
• Collaborate with project teams, providing constructive feedback and evaluating ideas.
• Apply knowledge of building materials, systems, specifications, codes and construction techniques to enrich designs.
• Manage time and workload to meet project deadlines, sharing knowledge with less‑experienced staff.

Required profile

• Professional degree in Architecture or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of professional experience or equivalent knowledge.
• Professional licensure process in progress; LEED accreditation preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

Required skills

• LEED accreditation (preferred).
• Proficiency in creating 3D models, renderings and physical models.
