Interior Designer (Creative / Senior / Lead)

About the role

GM China Design Studio, a production and advanced design studio, is building a long-term pipeline of interior designers in Shanghai. The role is on-site and full-time at the GM China Advanced Technical Center. Depending on level and experience, you may contribute to or lead interior design themes from early advanced exploration through production execution, working with UX/HMI, CMF, Studio Engineering, Vehicle Systems Engineering, Product Planning and Customer Research.

Key responsibilities

• Creative Designer: develop concepts, sketches, renderings, storyboards and visual narratives; explore alternative themes and spatial ideas; support proposals from ideation to digital models, CAS, clay or other representations; take part in design reviews, research and VR evaluations
• Senior Designer: independently develop and advance interior themes for advanced or production programs; partner with UX/HMI and CMF designers; prepare and present proposals in studio, Design Leadership Team, Global Design Review and executive forums; support customer clinics and design research
• Lead Designer: set the creative direction of assigned programs, direct proposals across space, UX/HMI, CMF, lighting, controls and materials, align with engineering and product partners, mentor designers and champion China-specific insights within global brand standards
• All levels: maintain awareness of automotive interior trends, customer behavior and competitive benchmarks; uphold high standards of proportion, composition, craftsmanship and visual communication; engage in a collaborative, international studio environment
