Designer – Shanghai

About the role

Heatherwick Studio is expanding its Shanghai studio and seeks experienced designers to contribute to a range of built‑environment projects. The role involves turning conceptual ideas into tangible, human‑centred spaces that are joyful, engaging and practical.

Key responsibilities

• Develop design concepts, sketches and detailed drawings that respond to project briefs.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, engineers and makers, to refine solutions.
• Navigate real‑world constraints such as buildability, budget and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in client workshops, presentations and design reviews.
• Ensure final outcomes are both ambitious and meaningful for users.

Required profile

• Proven experience in architectural, interior or spatial design.
• Strong judgment and ability to manage the complexities of real projects.
• Curiosity about how things could be different and a willingness to challenge assumptions.
• Confidence to contribute ideas and work collaboratively with others.
• Motivation to see designs evolve from concept to built reality.
