Customer Engineer – Shanghai

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Customer Engineer to join its field service team in Shanghai. The role serves as the direct liaison with customers, installing, maintaining and upgrading semiconductor equipment while using digital analytics for troubleshooting.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain and upgrade customer equipment across electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic and gas systems.
• Apply basic diagnostic techniques and digital analytics to assess and resolve technical issues, collaborating with senior engineers and customers.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance, and coordinate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations.
• Train and mentor junior field service engineers.

Required profile

• Associate degree, military technical training, field service experience or trade certification.
• 4‑7 years of experience in the semiconductor or equipment support industry.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a passport for travel.
• Ability to meet on‑site safety, environmental and COVID‑19 protocols.

Required skills

• Mechanical aptitude with pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum systems and thermodynamics.
• Proficiency with hand tools and digital multimeters.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
