Customer Engineer III – Field Service (Shanghai)

About the role

As a Customer Engineer III at Applied Materials, you will act as the primary liaison with customers, installing, maintaining, and upgrading advanced semiconductor and display equipment. You will leverage digital analytics and basic diagnostic techniques to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, ensuring high equipment uptime and customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and upgrade customer equipment.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic, and gas systems.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and customers to understand roadmaps, process flows, and business challenges.
• Train and mentor junior field service engineers.
• Coordinate and communicate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations.

Required profile

• Associate degree, military technical training, field service experience, or trade certification.
• 4‑7 years of experience in the semiconductor or equipment support industry.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a passport for travel.
• Ability to meet on‑site safety, environmental, and COVID‑19 protocols.

Required skills

• Advanced mechanical aptitude with pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum, and thermodynamics.
• Strong knowledge of hand tools and digital multimeters.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
