Customer Engineer I – Senior Level

About the role

Applied Materials, a global leader in materials science and engineering, is seeking a Customer Engineer I – Senior Level to join its Shanghai team. The role supports customers by installing, maintaining, and upgrading advanced semiconductor and display equipment, helping accelerate AI and next‑generation chip commercialization.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with senior field service engineers to install, maintain, and upgrade customer equipment.
• Use digital analytics and basic diagnostic techniques to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic, and gas systems (training provided).
• Coordinate directly with customers, communicating status and recommendations.
• Execute additional duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Associate degree, military technical training, field service experience, or trade certification.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn electrical and mechanical schematics.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a passport for travel.
• Ability to meet on‑site safety, environmental, and COVID‑19 protocols.

Required skills

• Mechanical aptitude and basic diagnostic techniques.
• Interpretation of electrical and mechanical schematics.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Use of hand tools, digital multimeters, and familiarity with pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum systems, and thermodynamics.
