Associate or Senior Editor – BMC Psychology

About the role

The Associate or Senior Editor will support the editorial handling and content development of BMC Psychology, contributing to the success of the BMC series. This hybrid role is based in Shanghai (or London) and involves collaboration with editorial boards, internal teams, and the scientific community.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a journal development strategy, commission reviews, collections and supplements, and drive them forward.
• Oversee content handling, advise editorial board members, resolve publishing or research ethics cases, and ensure high peer‑review quality.
• Build and maintain relationships with Editorial Board members, recruit and train new members, and host regular board meetings.
• Promote the journal by developing website content, attending conferences, writing blogs and engaging on social media.

Required profile

• PhD (or equivalent) in psychology, mental health or a related field.
• Interest in open‑access publishing and current scientific research.
• Excellent communication, influencing and customer‑focused skills.
• Strong analytical, critical appraisal and time‑management abilities.
• Willingness to travel occasionally and represent BMC at external events.
• Editorial experience (required for Senior Editor level).
