AI Engineer – Agentic AI Systems

About the role

Altera is building agentic AI platforms tightly coupled with FPGA acceleration to create intelligent systems that can reason, act, and scale in real‑world environments. This early‑career role offers hands‑on experience with LLM‑powered agents, retrieval‑augmented generation pipelines, and hardware‑software co‑design.

Key responsibilities

• Develop LLM‑driven agents that integrate tools, APIs, and data to complete complex tasks.
• Implement end‑to‑end RAG pipelines for large‑scale knowledge integration, from data ingestion to reasoning and action.
• Design multi‑step reasoning workflows and evaluate model performance (accuracy, latency, cost).
• Collaborate with FPGA/ASIC teams to create hardware‑aware AI designs and explore efficient inference trade‑offs.
• Build reusable platform components for memory/context management, tool integration, and knowledge retrieval.

Required profile

• Master’s (or exceptional Bachelor’s) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 1–3 years of experience through internships, research or industry projects.
• Strong coding skills in Python; C++ is a plus.

Required skills

• Python programming

• Experience with LangChain, LlamaIndex or similar frameworks
• Familiarity with vector databases such as FAISS or Milvus
• Knowledge of RAG, prompt engineering, or agent workflows
• Understanding of hardware acceleration concepts (FPGA, ASIC)
