Software Engineering Manager II – Android Pixel Retention

About the role

Software Engineering Manager II leads a team of engineers on the Pixel Retention team, driving the strategy and technical direction for Android applications that enhance long‑term user engagement with Google Pixel devices.

Key responsibilities

• Mentor, coach, and manage a team of software engineers, setting clear expectations and supporting career development.
• Define year‑over‑year strategy and mid‑term technical goals for the Pixel Retention app, contributing to high‑level architecture and design decisions.
• Build and grow relationships with Product, UX, and Google Store organizations to align roadmaps and ensure smooth development.
• Vet system designs, solve ambiguous technical problems, and enforce engineering excellence through rigorous design and code reviews for Android apps and supporting server back‑ends.
• Identify opportunities to leverage device or model capabilities to optimize workflows and drive global collaboration across time zones.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of software development experience, including Java and Kotlin.
• 3+ years in a technical leadership role.
• 2+ years of people‑management or team‑leadership experience.
• Preferred: Master’s or PhD in Computer Science or related field, experience integrating solutions into workflows, and managing global teams.
