Software Engineer II – China Tech

About the role

Booking.com is looking for a Software Engineer II to join its China Tech team. You will work on both the public website and internal systems, delivering high‑performance, scalable solutions that serve millions of travelers worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and scale the public website and internal platforms.
• Rapidly build next‑generation, flexible, high‑performance systems.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve site and system issues, prioritising customer impact.
• Communicate technical problems to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Support thousands of concurrent A/B experiments on the company’s testing platform.
• Contribute to recruitment activities such as interviewing and onboarding.

Required profile

• Minimum of 3 years of software development experience.
• Proficiency with at least two server‑side programming languages.
• Experience building or working with distributed systems.
• Hands‑on experience with open‑source data technologies such as Hadoop.
• Strong knowledge of MySQL and PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
• Experience on products that impact a large customer base is a plus.
• Preferably a university degree in Mathematics, Software Engineering or a related field.
• Fluent communication in English and Chinese.
• Willingness to participate in on‑call rotation.
