Senior Optical Module Engineer – Shanghai

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a highly experienced Senior Optical Module Engineer to lead end‑to‑end development, qualification, and productionization of advanced optical modules. The role covers optical architecture definition, module design, calibration, and volume manufacturing, requiring strong system‑level thinking and hands‑on execution.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive new optical and imaging module architectures, using geometrical and wave optics tools to assess performance limits and trade‑offs.
• Lead on‑tool and off‑tool module integration, calibration, and qualification, ensuring performance meets specifications through structured validation and data analysis.
• Develop novel characterization techniques and perform statistical analysis to evaluate optical performance, quality, and repeatability.
• Collaborate with manufacturing suppliers to develop fabrication, assembly, and alignment processes, supporting ramp‑up from prototype to high‑volume production.
• Provide technical leadership across cross‑functional teams and mentor junior engineers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Optical Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science or a related field.
• 10+ years of industry experience in optical modules or related hardware development.
• Proven track record leading optical module design, integration, calibration, and qualification.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to solve complex system‑level problems independently.
