Senior Function Development Engineer – Fluid & Pump Systems

About the role

Philips is seeking a Senior Function Development Engineer to lead pre‑development and advanced development of oral healthcare functions. You will apply fluid dynamics, electromechanical systems, and multi‑physics engineering to create innovative consumer‑centric solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Translate commercial, functional and design specifications into new fluid‑delivery technologies and products.
• Develop and optimise pumps, flow paths, valves, nozzles and electromechanical actuation systems.
• Investigate, characterise and optimise parameters such as pressure, flow rate, pulse characteristics, jet velocity and cleaning performance.
• Create verification methods, instrumentation and testing protocols to substantiate product benefits.
• Use simulation, modelling and experimental approaches (including CFD and multi‑physics) to predict and improve system behaviour.
• Collaborate with Marketing, Clinical Affairs, Product Development, System Engineering and Electrical Engineering teams.
• Contribute technical input to roadmap and strategy discussions and act as a key competence resource in multidisciplinary projects.

Required profile

• Master’s or Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, Biomedical Engineering or related field.
• 5‑10 years of experience in product, technology or innovation development, preferably in medical devices.
• Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, hydraulic systems and electromechanical actuation.
• Proactive, analytical, creative and able to communicate complex technical information to diverse audiences.
• Experience in regulated environments (FDA QSR, ISO 13485) is a plus.

Required skills

• Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and multi‑physics simulation.
• Simulation and modelling techniques for engineering analysis.
• Verification and characterisation methods for complex systems.
• Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), Design of Experiments (DOE) and TRIZ methodologies.
• Knowledge of FDA Quality System Regulations and ISO 13485.
