Senior Data Scientist

About the role

Covestro is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to drive advanced analytics across multiple business domains, including production, R&D, procurement, supply chain, sales, marketing, and finance. You will lead the development of reusable analytical models and translate business needs into prototypes and MVPs.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, evaluate, and model relationships between diverse data types across various application areas.
• Conduct exploratory and complex analyses using statistical modeling, machine learning, and AI techniques.
• Define strategies and roadmaps for model creation, visualization, and operationalization from prototyping to production scaling.
• Validate analyses and models produced by junior colleagues and provide training on data‑science tools and frameworks.
• Collaborate with Data Engineering to influence data processing architecture and assess external solution providers.
• Serve as the company‑wide point of contact for data‑science queries and act as Technical Lead.
• Supervise external data‑science contractors, performing model and code reviews.
• Explore and evaluate AI tools and Auto‑ML methods to improve model quality and speed.

Required profile

• University degree (Diploma, Master’s or PhD) in Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Data Science or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in data science, preferably in an international, virtual‑team environment.
• Proven ability to work across multiple business domains and translate business problems into analytical solutions.
• Experience managing external partners and suppliers.
