Principal Medical Science Liaison

About the role

The Principal Medical Science Liaison (PMAM) is a senior, field‑based member of Alcon’s Medical Affairs team. Acting as a strategic bridge between Alcon and ophthalmology/optometry experts, the PMAM supports product adoption, evidence generation and scientific exchange across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Strategically support the development, adoption and appropriate use of Alcon eye‑care products through evidence generation and scientific presentations.
• Engage and map Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), providing unbiased scientific data to practitioners, payors and internal teams.
• Guide investigators through Investigator Initiated Trials (IITs), from concept endorsement to grant approval, and serve as end‑to‑end study liaison.
• Mentor and onboard new field Medical Affairs Managers, sharing expertise in KOL engagement and IIT management.
• Respond to unsolicited scientific queries, provide detailed product knowledge, and support health‑economics and outcomes research for coverage decisions.
• Assist in trial design, offer biostatistical support, and lead manuscript preparation and publication activities.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Ophthalmology, Optometry, or related field (OD, MD/DO/MBBS, PhD, PharmD, etc.).
• Deep knowledge of eye diseases, ophthalmic surgical procedures and optometric practice.
• Minimum 5 years experience in ophthalmology/optometry (academia, industry or practice) with at least 3 years in ophthalmic devices or pharma.
• Preferably 8 years in Alcon R&D/Medical Affairs and 10 years in customer‑facing roles.
• Working knowledge of healthcare systems, ICH guidelines, GCP and ethical standards.
• Experience designing and executing post‑market clinical trials, scientific presentations, medical writing and biostatistics.
• Proven ability to build credible relationships with medical experts and decision‑makers.
