Medical Advisor – Business & Clinical

About the role

The Medical Advisor – Business & Clinical will provide scientific leadership and strategic direction for the therapeutic area, driving medical plans and supporting product life‑cycle activities. Reporting to senior medical leadership, the role combines scientific expertise with people‑management responsibilities to coach and develop the medical advisory team.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the local medical plan aligned with brand strategy, addressing unmet medical needs in priority disease areas.
• Collaborate with Medical Science Liaisons to incorporate field insights into plan development.
• Lead pre‑launch medical activities at least two years before product launch, tackling clinical and scientific challenges.
• Provide medical input to Phase 1‑4 study protocols, feasibility assessments and operational delivery.
• Support market research, post‑authorization safety studies (PASS) and real‑world evidence initiatives.
• Engage key opinion leaders, professional societies and external investigators to position AstraZeneca as a scientific leader.
• Present emerging data to healthcare professionals in an objective, balanced manner.
• Generate medical evidence to support brand strategies and initiate non‑interventional studies.
• Contribute to regulatory discussions to facilitate rapid market access.

Required profile

• Proven scientific expertise in the relevant therapeutic area and familiarity with associated compounds.
• Experience in medical affairs leadership, including strategic planning and people management.
• Ability to develop and implement medical plans, pre‑launch activities and real‑world evidence studies.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with KOLs, investigators and internal cross‑functional teams.
• Track record of contributing to study protocols, regulatory submissions and scientific publications.
