Customer Engineer IV – Field Service (Shanghai)

About the role

Applied Materials is a global leader in materials engineering solutions for semiconductor and display manufacturing. Based in Shanghai, the Customer Engineer IV provides on‑site installation, maintenance and upgrades of advanced equipment, working closely with customers to ensure optimal performance.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain and upgrade customer equipment, including electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic and gas systems.
• Apply troubleshooting and diagnostic tools, generate and follow documented procedures, and lead projects as needed.
• Communicate with customers and internal teams, and train/mentor junior field service engineers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with 7‑10 years of experience in the semiconductor or equipment support industry.
• Strong mechanical aptitude covering pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum and thermodynamics.
• Valid driver’s license, ability to travel (≈20 % of time) and meet on‑site safety and clean‑room requirements.

Required skills

• Digital analytics and company diagnostic tools for equipment troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with hand tools, digital multimeters and basic Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of wafer processing parameters and related equipment.
