Customer Engineer III – Field Service (Shanghai)

About the role

As a Customer Engineer III at Applied Materials, you will act as the primary liaison with semiconductor customers in Shanghai, installing, maintaining and upgrading advanced equipment. The position combines hands‑on technical work with direct customer interaction to ensure reliable operation of critical systems.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain and upgrade customer equipment, applying basic diagnostic techniques.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic and gas systems.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and customers to understand roadmaps, process flows and business challenges.
• Train and mentor junior field service engineers.
• Coordinate and communicate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations.

Required profile

• Associate degree, military technical training, field‑service experience or trade certification.
• 4‑7 years of experience in the semiconductor or equipment support industry.
• Advanced mechanical aptitude covering pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum and thermodynamics.
• Strong knowledge of hand tools and digital multimeters.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a passport for travel.
