Chemist / Senior Chemist – Laboratory (Shanghai)

About the role

This position focuses on developing new applications and products that meet business needs, while providing technical support to Asia‑Pacific customers, sales, and product managers. The role also collaborates with the technology team to troubleshoot plant production issues, optimise processes, and perform analytics.

Key responsibilities

• Independently manage lab innovation projects, including literature review, trial setup, and patent support when required.
• Lead the development and launch of new products and applications.
• Document all activities, compile test results, and share comprehensive reports.
• Support customer projects on‑site or off‑site and keep project status updated.
• Work with country sales and regional marketing teams to address business needs for new applications, product analysis, NCM, and training.
• Collaborate with the technology team to optimise plant processes.
• Ensure compliance with BASF safety standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Material Science or a related field.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience, preferably in polyurethane (PU), epoxy, coatings, or metalworking fluids.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a multicultural, multi‑functional environment.
• Fluent in English and Mandarin, both spoken and written.
• Analytical, project‑management and problem‑solving capabilities.

Required skills

• Laboratory techniques such as chromatography, spectroscopy and titration.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
