Assistant Manager – Individual Tax (Shanghai)

About the role

KPMG China is seeking an Assistant Manager to join its Individual Tax team in Shanghai. You will support foreign and Chinese expatriates with personal income tax compliance, liaise with tax authorities, and collaborate across functions to deliver high‑quality service.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and file annual PRC Individual Income Tax returns for foreigners working in China and Chinese nationals working abroad.
• Prepare and file monthly withholding IIT returns for Chinese employers.
• Conduct arrival and departure meetings for expatriates and outbound Chinese employees.
• Handle client enquiries on IIT compliance and interact with Chinese tax authorities.
• Coordinate with cross‑functional departments and senior staff on projects.
• Review junior staff work and provide coaching.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher; Master’s degree overseas or IELTS ≥ 7 is a plus.
• 2+ years of Individual Income Tax experience or 3+ years in a related field.
• Strong communication skills in English (spoken and written).
• Well‑organized, detail‑oriented, and able to meet multiple deadlines under pressure.
• Self‑starter and effective team player.
