Data Engineer – VIE position in China

About the role

Alstom is looking for a Data Engineer to join its China D&IS team on a Volontariat International en Entreprise (VIE) contract. You will help develop and sustain data‑driven tools for Smart Rail Insight and other digital mobility solutions, supporting projects in China and preparing solutions for external customers.

Key responsibilities

• Define, develop, manage and sustain data solutions, including storage, processing units and user interfaces.
• Design production‑grade, cyber‑secure architectures for multi‑tenant data collection, streaming and batch processing.
• Build scalable data models using both SQL and NoSQL technologies.
• Assess and improve data quality of incoming flows and implement data‑management and security components.
• Create customizable analytical dashboards for end‑users.
• Collaborate with engineering, data science, HMI design and DevOps teams to ensure robust testing and quality assurance.

Required profile

• Engineering or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field.
• 2 to 7 years of experience in IT, digital companies, software startups, or similar environments, with at least 2 years in China.
• Strong background in data processing and software development using Python, R, Java or Scala.

Required skills

• Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, Apache NiFi.
• SQL databases (PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MySQL) and NoSQL modeling.
• Data modelling, data quality assessment, and data security.
• DevOps practices and tools.
• Experience building analytical dashboards.
