About the role

The UN Resident Coordinator Office in Beijing is seeking a motivated Protocol Intern to support inter‑agency coordination and diplomatic engagements. This full‑time, unpaid six‑month internship offers hands‑on experience with UN protocols, government liaison, and high‑level delegation support.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare draft Note Verbales to government counterparts, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, supporting the mandates of the Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) and UN Country Team (UNCT).
• Engage with government counterparts under guidance to address practical protocol issues and contribute to the implementation of the Cooperation Framework.
• Assist the UN Country Team with protocol‑related requests and coordinate support from the RCO.
• Provide logistical and substantive support for incoming high‑level UN delegations, including preparation and reception of visits.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or completed a graduate programme (Master’s or PhD) or in the final year of a bachelor’s programme.
• Strong interest in international relations, diplomacy and UN protocols.
• Ability to work full‑time (5 days a week, 8 hours per day) in an unpaid internship.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Word.
• Proficiency with MS PowerPoint.
• Proficiency with MS Teams.
